There comes a time in every man’s life when he has to ask himself “What kind of grill am I?” Are you a charcoal? Are you gas? Or are you wood chips? How do you like to grill? Are of the school of thought that smoke doesn’t matter as long as the burger is done or do you think that slow cooking meat is the best meat? Let’s explore the pros and cons.
Smokers
The smoker technique of grilling does not involve any harmful substances or addictions. In grilling, smoking the meat is thought to be one of the most effective ways of infusing flavor into the meat. Wood chips are most commonly used because many different woods carry different flavors with them. Grills and smokers are not really the same thing. A plain grill can accept wood chips or charcoal but a smoker grill has extra room for added flavor enhancing fuel. Dual grills allow users to actually switch between smoking and grilling or do mixes to better cook the meat. Beyond using wood chips smokers can use propane with debatable results.
Grills
While slow cooking smokers are probably the best way to cook burgers and steaks (or any delicious meat for that matter) grilling should play a major role in meat preparation.
Most grillers will start off smoking a meat and then finish it off with some flame kisses for the total BBQ feel and flavor that America has come to love.
Are you a Grilling and smoking man or is life simpler? If you are true to your taste buds I think we all know the answer.

We have a combination grill with the smoker. We are attempting to smoke a turkey. do you put the charcoal and wood chips just on the grill side so that it smokes into the smiker or do you also put the chips in the smoker area?
I would put the charcoal in the cooker part for the heat and the wood chips in the smoker to smoke the turkey.
Theoretically you could just smoke a turkey but it would take a really really long time so you want to use the heat from the charcoal to cook it and the smoke from the smoker (wood chips) to flavor the meat and smoke it.
