Pros and Cons of an Online Degree Program
Education is so important to finding a good job and getting ahead in our competitive job market, especially now that the economy is slowing down and more businesses are looking for ways to cut costs rather than hire new faces. For a lot of people hoping to make themselves more marketable, earning or finishing a degree through an online degree program looks like a pretty good option.
Online degree programs can work out really well for some people, particularly those who are non-traditional students (i.e. married or single parents, older students returning to finish a degree begun many years ago, or people balancing one or multiple full-time jobs).
Because an online degree program offers schedule flexibility and options that traditional colleges and universities could never accommodate, they are great options for busy people. But online degree programs are still challenging and demanding, and only those who are truly motivated and driven to finish will end up with a degree.
Unfortunately many people look at online degree programs as an easy way to avoid the pressures and demands of higher education, but still get the necessary degree. These people are sorely disappointed as they begin their courses as they find that, if they’ve chosen a legitimate program and not a diploma mill, it’s harder than they expected. Online degree programs are still fighting the stigma that they are the quick easy way to a degree. Most are raising their expectations of students as they make their place among traditional colleges and universities.
So if you are sincere about working hard to get a degree through an online degree program, it may be perfect for you. If you just want an easy ride that won’t take too much time away from your gaming or marathon TV watching, but will get your mom off your back, don’t waste your time and money on an online degree program.
