Good Equipment for SCUBA Beginners

Though I’ve not yet had the opportunity to go, I’ve always been fascinated by Scuba Diving. I finally decided the time has come to start at least researching the equipment involved, so that I know what I’m getting myself into if I ever actually make the move to start diving as a hobby.

Oceanic Dive Computers seem to be the market leaders for wrist dive computers. Most models have standard-sized (large) wrist mount units, which are actually pretty blasted big. Kind of annoying if you use it as a watch, but I imagine a pretty good sized design under the water, which is what matters. The large size allow plenty of room to display the essential info.

I the Oceanic Dive Computers no-nonsense approach to their designs. The display has all the essential information presented in an easy to read screen and not cluttered with other stuff. Graphic displays on the sides of the unit display information about nitrogen loading (deco), O2 loading, air remaining and ascent rate. In the center of the display you’ll find your depth, dive time remaining (either in relation to air remaining or no-deco limit, whichever is the lesser of the two), and tank pressure. A couple pushes of the center button adds temperature, time, dive time and maximum depth. And it comes with IndiGlo.

The main reasons anyone would want an Oceanic Dive Computer is that it is one of the most affordable dive computers, and they are easy and simple to use (good for beginners as well as seasoned divers). The audible and visual alarms (beeping and blinking) in Oceanic Dive Computers alert the diver of time and air remaining so beginners like me don’t get into too much trouble.
