I love to see new places, but I really hate the hassle of getting ready to travel. I have to clean the house, pack, stop the mail, book hotels, apply for a visa and sometimes I even have to renew my passport. Renewing my passport is definitely a task that must be done since I can’t go to different countries without it, but that doesn’t mean I have to like the process.

Many people would say that we leave in the supreme age of science. Some other types of people might say that we live in the supreme of fashion. There are times when these two methodologies mesh fairly well, such as the use of science (technology) to enhance the ideas of beauty and fashion. iPods, cell phones, PDAs and the like are great examples of this, as are the numerous types of plastic surgery that are well sought out in many circles.
Botox, liposuction, and Breast augmentation in California, New York, and other cultural and fashion Meccas, or breast implants as they are more commonly called, are all great examples of how the world of science has infiltrated the world of beauty and fashion and made the idea of personal image, become more attainable.

There were always a lot of activities, dances and concerts to see on campus, but one of the best ones I went to was an outdoor movie. Students were sprawled out all over the grass watching The Sand Lot play on a giant screen. The screen was so big that it was easy for me to see the picture even though I was at the back of the crowd.
Sometimes, after a long day at work or way too much studying for school, the most appealing way to spend an evening is to kick back and relax with a movie. Outdoor movies are especially fun because there is a lot of fresh air, you can curl up in some blankets and the stars are a beautiful backdrop. Outdoor movie screens are usually pretty large too, so it’s easier to share a film with even more friends than normal.

I find that the older I get, the more I enjoy warm weather. As a kid I spent tons of time out in the snow building forts, sledding, skiing and launching snowballs at my siblings, but now my idea of a good time is a generous amount of sun and some fresh air. Add some water to that list, and you’ve got a great combination. After all, even sun can be overbearing if you don’t have a way to cool off.
I was lucky enough to go to Thailand on my honeymoon and during the trip I went kayaking and snorkeling for the first time in my life. The tropical waters of southern Thailand were warm and clear and it felt good to glide through the water in my own little kayak. Unfortunately, a trip to Thailand took twenty hours or more of travel time.

Even though it takes a lot of time, breastfeeding yields a lot of benefits. According to many pediatricians, babies that are nourished with breast milk tend to be healthier. Their immune systems develop quicker and they are less susceptible to chronic diseases. It also means that they won’t have to deal with as many colds and ear infections which are common infant ailments.
Mothers get a few benefits from breastfeeding as well. In addition to the bond that breastfeeding creates between mother and child, breastfeeding also helps a woman’s uterus return to normal size. So, breastfeeding is an easy way to help loose the weight that you gain during pregnancy. Breastfeeding is also economical. You can save hundreds of dollars using breast instead of buying formulas, and healthier children will mean lower health costs too.

Homeschooling is on the rise as the Public Education system in our country continues to be scrutinized, maligned and persecuted, and many parents are using home school curriculums to help their children learn while becoming a major contributor to their educational process.
Finding and maintaining a good and effective home school curriculum is the single most important aspect of creating a successful home school education for your child. Because every child is different and their needs vary drastically, a well organized and comprehensive curriculum is essential to ensure a quality education and a thirst for knowledge.

I’ve been wanting to take a trip north for a while now and this cements it. I did a search on flickr for Nahanni River (it’s a river in Canada) and found some really beautiful pictures. Trips shouldn’t be too expensive. (More photos after the break)

An aerial photo of the river. Looks like it’s taken from a plane in the northwest territories near nunavut.

Check out this little canoe dock. Apparently it’s taken by Nahanni Butte, a small town on the south nahanni river. Canada is amazing.

The fog on the forest really gets me. Camping where the mornings are foggy and the afternoons are bright and sunny sounds amazing.
More River Pictures
By all means, click on the photos and follow their photostreams for some more amazing pictures of the Nahanni river and the surrounding territories. A trip out there would be amazing.
Does anyone know a good outfitter, field guide or tourist service? I was looking at Blackfeather but wasn’t sure. Has anyone gone on a nahanni river trip? Share your experience!

Laptops are the computers of choice for many Americans, and more and more people on converting to laptops over desktop PCs. The portability of laptops makes them ideal machines for business, academics, or for anyone who wants to the versatility of bringing their work with them.
Although they are built for durability, they stand to be more prone to damage because their portability makes them more likely to be dropped, stepped on, or banged around in a fashion that would be unheard of for a PC.

Lately I hear a lot of talk about our becoming a “paperless world”. eBooks, online newspapers, laptops and PDAs are definitely contributing to this paperless revolution, as well as our move to digital photography and photo-sharing using the internet.
I remember taking film to be developed on at least a monthly basis during my younger years, but to be honest, I can’t remember the last time I used a 35mm film camera. The digital age has changed the face of photography, but there is still a valuable use for paper today.
New advances in photo printing can help photographers (both professional and amateur) keep and share their photos in a traditional manner that is cheaper per photo than traditional film and maintains a similar quality. In addition, you can digitally alter your own photos (cropping, resizing, etc.) before printing them out.
Once the camera and printer are acquired, there are only two continued costs when using home photo printing techniques: paper and ink. For the purposes of this post, I will ignore paper, as the prices varies greatly depending on quality, manufacturer, etc. and therefore can have a fluxuating impact on the cost of home photo printing.

How do you know when you live in a place where the weather dictates how happy you are? For me it’s when I wake up to see my front yard covered in the kind of precipitation that they use a wooden ruler to measure. It’s never a good sign when I see the local meteorologist on Television using the word “feet” or “winter storm”. I’ve gotten to the point where I can read him: he blinks slowly and subtly bows his head just before delivering the proverbial knockout punch that we are about to experience another apocalyptic amount of snow and ice (more…)
